Nancy M. Williams and Holly Cohen, Expert Speakers on Overcoming Stigma

“A lively team with a wealth of insights into the challenges of living with hearing loss. They gave an engaging and interactive talk. Their diverse audience was energized, involved, positive, and inspired. I highly recommend these two professionals to audiences of professionals who want to understand hearing loss—either those who personally live with hearing loss, or those who want to understand how to work with those who do.”

—Jan Blustein, Professor of Health Policy and Medicine, NYU Wagner

Although invisible, elusive, and often discounted, stigma continues to loom large for those who live with hearing loss. People experience stigma across the lifecycle of living with hearing loss, from acknowledging their hearing loss to incorporating hearing aids into their lives. Stigma against hearing loss is admissible and deeply embedded in our society; it plays a significant and somewhat intractable role in holding down consumers’ decision to seek hearing healthcare.

Drawing from their own personal and professional experiences with the stigma of hearing loss, Nancy M. Williams and Holly Cohen have been delivering in-depth workshops on the topic for the past three years. Their interactive presentations, for consumers and professionals alike, garner enthusiastic reviews from participants, who come away with a a suite of sustainable and meaningful tools for overcoming the stigma of hearing loss.
